Duggar statement is back up, with the porn stuff cut out: http://www.duggarfamily.com/2015/8/statements-from-jim-bob-and-michelle-duggar-and-josh-duggar …pic.twitter.com/1E8lG94GJ0
The statement is more direct as to the cheating: Original: "I became unfaithful to my wife." Now: "I have been unfaithful to my wife."
@chrisgeidner yes, and seemingly blamed the infidelity on internet porn
@chrisgeidner "I became unfaithful" isn't active or passive voice; it's intransitive so it doesn't have a voice
@chrisgeidner @richcasa Should have simply gone with "Extramarital sex happened"
@chrisgeidner @fvguima (…except that's not passive voice…)
@IvaCheung believe that was part of the joke
@fvguima I may be wrong, but I don't think so. A lot of people have the misconception that "became" makes something passive.
@IvaCheung whoa, really?
@IvaCheung (I thought "passive" as in "shifting blame", not... confusing an intransitive verb with actual passive voice.)
@fvguima There's a popular belief that anything that hides agency is passive. I think @sesquiotic can back me up: http://theweek.com/articles/445035/grammar-quiz-know-passive-voice ….
@IvaCheung @sesquiotic that's really interesting! had no idea this was so widespread.
@IvaCheung and I had somehow not come across @sesquiotic before. so, an inadvertent #ff (#ft?) there.
@chrisgeidner Should have done, "My wife was being cheated on..."
@chrisgeidner @CarleenML there was an assault case the other day where Defendant testified, "next thing I know, [the victim] got hit."
@chrisgeidner @BuzzFeedNews Jesus replies: "Dude, I don't even KNOW you."
@chrisgeidner @BuzzFeedNews new meme: Transgressions Josh Duggar becoming apologetic for.
