I started blogging in 2003 b/c I wanted to write something about the forthcoming decision in Lawrence v. Texas. We were where we are now ...
-
-
-
... waiting on
#SCOTUS. I had worked at a newspaper for a couple years prior to starting Law Dork — but the blogging really got me hooked. -
Lawrence came down, a dozen years ago tomorrow, and the legal ground shifted. I was watching and writing and living it, while in law school.
-
OSU Law Profs Marc Spindelman, Ruth Colker, Doug Berman, & Kate Federle encouraged me (after
@zipsix actually introduced me to blogging). -
I blogged away through the next many years in Ohio - w/ the exception of 2 when I was working for the Ohio AG's Office - covering it all.
-
In Nov 2009, I moved to DC, started freelancing & then working for
@metroweekly. I covered the end of DADT & the beginning of DOMA's end. -
Three years ago,
@BuzzFeedBen asked me to join@BuzzFeed, which I did, & the past three years - incredibly - happened. And, here we are. -
Two years ago tomorrow,
#SCOTUS declared DOMA's ban on federal marriage recognition unconstitutional — leading to the marriage wave since. -
Tonight, like a dozen years ago, I am awaiting word from the Supreme Court. Now, however, I am coming from such a different place.
-
As I say often, I am so very grateful for what I get to do as my job, but, thinking over the past dozen years, it is incredible that I ...
-
... am here, that the people who have given me the chances I have been given have done so, and that I have this career. I am humbled.
-
That, on Saturday, I will have been sober for five years is not lost on me as being key to my story. So, for that, I am grateful as well.
-
Thanks to my friends and family for their love — & all you wonderful people for always asking me when the marriage ruling is coming down.

-
Of course, the marriage story is one piece of the coverage I have devoted myself to for years and the expanded coverage I've taken on ...
-
... in recent years and months. So, even once we're done with this, I'm just getting going. I'll be asking "What's next?" soon enough.
-
In sum: Night, all, and be good to one another.
