There are only 3 states in the U.S. that neither have marriage equality nor have ever had a pro-marriage/recognition ruling: GA, NE, & ND.

So, the morning after Obama's election, we were left with only one state - Massachusetts - in which same-sex couples could marry.

The passage of
#Prop8, however, energized a new generation of activists -- who couldn't believe such a measure had passed in "liberal" CA. -
The folks at GLAD, meanwhile, had been prepping a challenge to DOMA in MA. They had been holding off filing the case, but would soon do so.

Also, a marriage case was pending in Iowa and legislative marriage efforts were ready to begin in most of New England down to New York.

It's been quite a path since.
