There are only 3 states in the U.S. that neither have marriage equality nor have ever had a pro-marriage/recognition ruling: GA, NE, & ND.

That was less than 6 years and 3 months ago. Precisely, it was 2,272 days ago.
-
Along w Obama's election also came the passage of Proposition 8 in CA, which ended marriage equality there and left MA alone until CT.
-
Although the CT marriage ruling happened before the 2008 election, procedural happenings meant marriage equality didn't start until mid-Nov.
-
So, the morning after Obama's election, we were left with only one state - Massachusetts - in which same-sex couples could marry.
-
The passage of
#Prop8, however, energized a new generation of activists -- who couldn't believe such a measure had passed in "liberal" CA. -
The folks at GLAD, meanwhile, had been prepping a challenge to DOMA in MA. They had been holding off filing the case, but would soon do so.
-
Also, a marriage case was pending in Iowa and legislative marriage efforts were ready to begin in most of New England down to New York.
-
It's been quite a path since.

@GayPatriot Erm. Iowa and like, most of New England all happened in the spring of 2009. That's also when GLAD filed the first DOMA case.
