As SCOTUS opened today, seven protesters - one by one - interrupted the court proceedings by declaring things like: "Money is not speech."

After the first two, the Chief Justice said, "And now, for our second order of business .." -- but then, five more protesters stood & spoke.

One saying "We are the 99%." After the seven were removed by court personnel, CJ said the court would "continue w our tradition of" open ct.

There would be pictures or video of the protest in most other public buildings, but the "open court" of the Supreme Court includes neither.

@chrisgeidner To be fair, it’s very open when it comes to briefs and audio recordings. I wish our Supreme Court were like that.

@carlgardner "Very open" is a comparative term. Briefs aren't online, and audio can take days.

@chrisgeidner I find briefs here: http://www.americanbar.org/publications/preview_home/alphabetical.html … You mean not on the Court’s own website?

@carlgardner yes, I know how to get briefs. That's working *around* the court, not openness.

@chrisgeidner Sure, okay. The trouble with our system is that written arguments are much harder to access than that.

@carlgardner Got it. Not saying we don't have it better, but our Supreme Court sucks compared to lower federal courts for access is my pt.
