Today was another signif step in the move toward protecting
#trans people under Title VII that's been a big part of my reporting here in DC. -
Here's my April 23, 2012 story at
@metroweekly - "Transgender Breakthrough" - that broke the news of the EEOC ruling: http://www.metroweekly.com/2012/04/transgender-breakthrough/ … -
Milestone ruling thanks to

@chrisgeidner But the EEOC still has to add sexual orientation and gender identity. -
@btrethewy Not sure what you mean by "add." EEOC already has recognized that gender identity is protected under Title VII sex discrim ban. -
@chrisgeidner Really? So EEOC recognizes gender identity but not sexual orientation? Or am I missing that? -
@btrethewy EEOC recognizes that gender identity/transgender discrimination is "sex discrimination" under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act. -
@btrethewy That has been so since April 2012, and I've probably written about 100 stories since then on the topic or related ones. -
@chrisgeidner Great. Thanks. So states that still discriminate are violating EEOC? Love this stuff. -
@btrethewy EEOC can investigate any claim of discrim under Title VII. They've handled many trans claims w/in EEOC & sued on two this yr. - 3 more replies
