@chrisgeidner we knew from the start that SSA went by place of residence, not celebration. What's new here?

@ecjacobs 1st, they're doing it, which is news. 2nd, they weren't willing to say so in their release celebrating payments earlier Friday.

@ecjacobs They didn't provide additional info on the phone and never responded to the email request they asked me to send when I called.

@chrisgeidner do you get the impression, are these "holds" temporary while the administration studies the legal issues?

@msilverman They're holds, not denials, so of course it is possible.

@chrisgeidner I noticed that, "hold" vs "deny" - hope you can get some decent answers Monday. Thanks for being on top of this late night

@chrisgeidner @maddow What about Full Faith & Credit Clause? Does it not apply because states can choose to not honor other state's laws?

@attempts_at_zen @maddow It only involves a FFC/Sec.2 question if SSA requires adherence to state law for provision of the fed benefit.

@crescat The "hold" language is interesting. Can't imagine they'd pay now, but no reason to think it wouldn't be put on hold, too.

@chrisgeidner My quick legal analysis. Domicile rule probably req'd, but maybe should pay in civil union states too. http://www.volokh.com/2013/08/10/social-security-administration-takes-different-view-of-marital-choice-of-law/ …
