JUST IN: The ACLU, in a board vote, opposes Kavanaugh’s #SCOTUS confirmation. It took no position on Gorsuch, per the group’s policy. This is only the fourth time in the organization’s history it has opposed a Supreme Court nominee. From the resolution passed today:pic.twitter.com/kdMENpXh0z

A board member explains further —> “From 1971 to 2006, ACLU had a different policy governing judicial nominees which allowed it to take a position on Supreme Court nominations (but nothing else). At that time, it opposed Rehnquist in 1971, Bork in 1987 and Alito in 2006.”

“In 2006, the current policy was adopted which does not allow the Board to take a position on SCOTUS nominations. The Board voted to override that policy on September 28th ... not because of the nominee’s substantive positions but bc of the credible allegation of sexual assault.”

The ACLU turning into a blue version of the NRA is one of the sadder happenings of this decade.

I mean, they opposed Alito, but not Roberts. And then changed their policy in 2006 not to take a position and hadn’t done so with Gorsuch or, until now, on Kavanaugh. There might be legit criticism of the changing ACLU, but I’m not sure I see this as being the strongest argument.

I agree it's not the strongest argument, but it is yet another example. I could see them opposing Kavanaugh for a million civil liberties reasons (Patriot Act), but jumping on the "credibly accused" bandwagon rather than on a history of jurisprudence just smacks of politicking.

Even if u take her out of it... he is still unfit and every case he has ever touched needs to be investigated.... and bc they refuse to throw this trash away.. his enablers should also be investigated
