Is there any difference between the sworn statement from Julie Swetnick to the committee and the sworn statement of Mark Judge in terms of evidence standard? Because I haven’t heard a senator who didn’t refer to one as dubious and the other as worth considering.

Federal rules of evidence don’t apply in Congress AFAIK (just a litigator). But even if there were parallels, Judge’s statement isn’t even a sworn declaration, while Swetnick’s is, under penalty of perjury. This whole thing is, to borrow a phrase from yesterday, a farce.

Also note that Kavanaugh was internally inconsistent about Judge, suggesting his old classmate's memoir is unreliable because of his alcoholism, but in the next breath that he's made definitive statements by email and that's all there is to it.

Yeah, probably too harsh to say "because of his alcoholism," though he connects the "untruthfulness" to Judge's path toward sobriety. Larger point is it's marketed as a memoir and Kavanaugh flat out contradicts that, which is weird.pic.twitter.com/0ErGzyJJ6s

But it's not fiction, is the point. It's always been understood to be a memoir.https://books.google.com/books/about/Wasted.html?id=u3wMAAAACAAJ …

He might say Judge is wrong about stuff in it, but it's not a fictionalized story; it's Judge's memories.

He changed names, a common practice in memoirs. Although that's a poorly disguised one.

Swetnick says she attended ten parties where girls were gang-raped. No one with a brain in his head believes this.

Can someone please explain what "under penalty of felony" means, and the statute one can be charged with a felony for making a false statement in this manner? Because here's proof that the substance of the last letter judge sent is a blatant lie: Charge him. pic.twitter.com/eSeUhfv2Dd
