The "female assistant" is a lawyer, to be clear. Her title, I would imagine, likely is special counsel to the committee or the chair.https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/paulmcleod/republicans-plan-kavanaugh-vote-ford-hearing-allegations …

Aren’t Feinstein Klobacher Harris and Hirono women committee members?
-
On the Republican side; sorry if that wasn’t clear.
-
He, as in the Republican Leader.

If they're unable to do their jobs & ask questions themselves then they shouldn't be a senator. You don't get to farm out the jobs that make you look like white old men because of poor optics. Hiring a "female assistant to go in staff" is actually worse and makes them look weak

So they hire a woman to do their dirty work and make sure everyone knows she's just an assistant subordinate to all of them.

Why is this "worse?" What makes this empirically bad?
-
It is worse because they are hiding. This “assistant”, who is a lawyer, btw, is doing their dirty work. And they do not have the guts to be visible during their own atrocities. They are pretending that women back this selection, which they overwhelmingly do not. It’s all bad.

Why wouldn't you want an experienced sexual assault prosecutor to lead the questioning? She'd be far superior in expertise to handle the situation appropriately.
-
No one is on trial here. Why do you believe a prosecutor appropriate? Do you think prosecutors should question all witnesses who come before this committee?
-
1. Yes, someone is on trial. It's not a criminal court of law, but a man is on trial. 2. A prosecutor who specializes in sexual assault cases would obviously be better suited to lead the questioning, so as to not traumatize the alleged victim.
-
1. Too late on traumatizing. 2. The nominee is seeking a promotion to the most prestigious job in his field. His character, fitness & integrity is "on trial" if you will. Among the 11 GOP Senators are lawyers, including one former judge. Surely they're competent to do their jobs.
-
1. We agree - he's on trial. 2. The only reason Democrats demand a skilled interviewer not be employed is for the optics. Do you think we can't see that? Seriously? The GOP is simply sidestepping the trap. We all know what's happening.
-
1. No. It's a hearing about credibility. 2. Do you think we can't see the GOP's charade from the start? Withhold 90% of the nominee's WH docs, block an FBI background check. If they aren't skilled enough to do their jobs with respect, get another one. Don't hire for appearances.

Please remind everyone that Sandra Day O'Conner's first job offer from a law firm after graduating from Stanford law school was as a secretary.

Surely Mitch must have some Skelton’s in his closet. He is way to good at the power dynamics of rape. Almost as if it is a natural talent to humiliate and delegitimize all while appearing pure and wholesome...I think he’s had practice.
