Starting today's Kavanaugh thread here with this important contextual story from @pdmcleod —> Republicans Say The Timing Of The Kavanaugh Letter Is "Disturbing." But Here's What Actually Happened.https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/paulmcleod/brett-kavanaugh-letter-timing-political …

Opposition to Kavanaugh grows, support at historic low. Reuters poll has just 31% of US adults in favor of Kavanaugh, fewer than 2/3 of Republicans (64%) https://reut.rs/2xqv3wo

There was also this somewhat odd report from CNN —>https://www.cnn.com/2018/09/18/politics/pj-smyth-brett-kavanaugh/index.html …

Why is this "somewhat odd"? Ford said that Smyth was at the party; Smyth responds that he has "no knowledge of the party in question," or of the alleged misconduct by Kavanaugh. Seems pretty straightforward.

The story doesn’t say where she named him, whether CNN actually confirmed that she did so, when and how he found out that she allegedly named him, when he hired a lawyer, and how this letter came to be prepared. There are just a few of the most obvious questions.

Okay, fair enough. Though according to the WP story: "Ford named two other teenagers who she said were at the party. Those individuals did not respond to messages on Sunday morning." So presumably that's how Smyth learned he was one of them - WP told him.https://www.washingtonpost.com/investigations/california-professor-writer-of-confidential-brett-kavanaugh-letter-speaks-out-about-her-allegation-of-sexual-assault/2018/09/16/46982194-b846-11e8-94eb-3bd52dfe917b_story.html?utm_term=.a83bc4bdb8da …
