I’m well aware of the difference. The background investigation differs based on the facts of the nominee. Thomas was accused of recent misconduct on federal property, clearly a issue the FBI would investigate in a check and be able to report on.
-
A 36 year old allegation of teenage assault at an unspecified house party on an unspecified date, at an unspecified time, at an unspecified location is not something the FBI would launch a special BI into. Treating the 2 situations as the same is misleading and you know it.
-
The White House can ask the FBI to do further investigation, and it did so in 1991. The White House has not asked it to do so now. Everything else you’re spouting off is your opinion unless you have some particular expertise to make those distinctions.

Lol. Read the articles. Not at all based on my opinion, based on reported, easily ascertainable facts. :) Also I’m not “spouting off”. I’m noting the differences between the situations, differences you gloss over because you want to smear Hatch’s statement as “odd”
-
The differences have nothing to do with whether the FBI can do a background investigation.
-
The differences have everything to do with Hatch’s tweet on whether the FBI does investigations “like this”. “Like this”= specifically meaning the circumstances surrounding this allegation. Which makes the many differences b/w this case and the others imperative to understand.
