Through a lawyer, Mark Judge, who Ford wrote in her letter also was in the room, sent a statement to the Judiciary Committee and says he doesn't want to speak publicly about the matter. https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/zoetillman/brett-kavanaugh-accuser-hearing …pic.twitter.com/hi9tgGg2Nk

Christine Blasey Ford says she’s received “a stunning amount of support” but also “her worst fears have materialized” in terms of abuse. She wants a law enforcement investigation into the Kavanaugh affair as a “first step” but doesn’t rule out testifying. https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/paulmcleod/dr-christine-ford-wants-fbi-investigation-testifying-senate … pic.twitter.com/gnZCj5r5ot

To understand this tweet — https://twitter.com/cstrohm/status/1042225884743311361?s=21 … — read this story from yesterday: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-09-17/white-house-is-said-not-to-ask-fbi-to-vet-kavanaugh-allegations …

Bloomberg News: The FBI did not tell Trump or anyone else at the White House that the bureau doesn’t want to be involved in an investigation of allegations against Kavanaugh, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Chair Grassley, meanwhile, issued a statement responding to the letter from Dr. Ford’s lawyers. In notable part, Grassley says that, in his view, no further investigation from the FBI is needed before she testifies.pic.twitter.com/cHs44ds3xm

Chris Geidner Retweeted Senator Hatch Office

OK, some things to clear up from Sen. @OrrinHatch — a former chair of the committee. He tweeted a few odd things tonight. First, there was this:https://twitter.com/senorrinhatch/status/1042216779043491840 …

The FBI does not do investigations like this. The responsibility falls to us. Chairman @ChuckGrassley has moved our committee vote to accommodate Dr. Ford’s lawyer’s offer on TV yesterday to have her client testify before the Judiciary Committee. We should proceed as planned.

Yes, Thomas was a federal employee. The FBI investigates alleged crimes committed by those. They don't investigate alleged crimes committed by Maryland teenagers.

In 1991, the White House counsel asked the FBI to probe the Anita Hill matter. This time around that hasn't happened. And these aren't criminal probes, they are background checks - a very different thing.
