One can critique multiple things as being on different levels. If you can’t allow for that, you’re seeking the same oversimplification of our national dialogue that is at the base of a lot of the Tumpisms that I’m sure you eagerly decry.

Nuance is for stable governments. You know, the kind with dedicated, principled bureaucrats and a free press. Don't be myopic.

No. Nuance is especially important in times when we’re talking about what our expectations of government and understandings of our law are and what norms we hope to adhere to now and in the future. This is the precise time to care deeply about nuance.

Nope. It’s a false equivalency to compare Obama’s increasing prosecution for leaks vs. Trumps full out assault on the first amendment and inciting violence (enemy of the people) against the 4th estate. It’s false equivalencies that watered down Trumps corruption bc of emails.

Good use of buzzwords, albeit completely incorrectly. Someone has to suggest something is equivalent for there to be a false equivalency. No one in this thread has done such a thing. People who faced criminal penalties under the Obama DOJ’s resurgence of leak investigations ...

... faced real penalties. It is not in any way suggesting any equivalency when context is added into a story. It is, in fact, essential for us to understand as a country where to go from here.

And your attack on journalists who point that out is an unfortunate symptom of the unwillingness of people to want to do the hard work necessary to chart out such a path.

Saying Obama also "attacked the press" then claiming degrees of nuance that mean your point was not to equivocate between Trump and Obama is ludicrously disingenuous. Bringing it up in context suggests relative sameness, which is the opposite of the facts

Exactly! And of course we all agree that threatening to lock up journalists/are leakers is WAY WORSE than saying mean things about CNN. Wait, we don’t agree on that? Oh right, bc Obama can do no wrong, forgot that part of this game. 😂😂😂 PS How’s Syria? #RedLine @Jonooooo

But if we’re talking about nuance I think it would be important to add context to what leaks were prosecuted. Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think Obama ever encouraged prosecution of someone for being mean to him. Which is essentially what Trump is doing.

Where to go from here ? First, remove Trump from office. Then, the media can examine their role in the ascendancy of someone so opposed to civil liberties to the Presidency .

Hey Chris, I’d be taking physical threats as REAL PENALTIES, ones that Trump has encited now in at least 3 and counting. I say counting as I don’t believe this maniac will stop using those words that should be used on dictators and racists not on the press.
