I also think that the aim of the focus — on who he had doing things at the funeral and what they said — was an effort, to his last real moment in the spotlight, to encourage a different path. So, he'd say, I think, that he wanted to send a message that we can be OK.

I do see this part. The broad picture of McCain as a cornerstone and Trump as a wrecking ball. That contrast rings true.
