Here's our coverage of today's DC funeral for Sen. John McCain:https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/amberjamieson/john-mccain-funeral …
I mean, it's the funeral of a man whose life, to many people, represents the polar opposite — within the Republican Party — of Trump. And, it comes at a moment when focus on Trump's future is heightened, between SCOTUS, midterms, and Mueller. So, I'm not really surprised.

I also think that the aim of the focus — on who he had doing things at the funeral and what they said — was an effort, to his last real moment in the spotlight, to encourage a different path. So, he'd say, I think, that he wanted to send a message that we can be OK.
-
"A Republic, if you can keep it," and all that, but, yeah, that's how I've looked at it at least.
-
I do see this part. The broad picture of McCain as a cornerstone and Trump as a wrecking ball. That contrast rings true.

I get this, and I'm certainly not surprised that he is contrasted with Trump, but McCain was ALWAYS known as a "maverick" which means you could always contrast him with anyone. McCain certainly was a man of sacrifice, perseverance, and principles (where Trump is not) but . . .

the other elements of them are oddly similar: bellicose, "straight talk"/ "tells it like it is" (including saying racist things), women, temper, etc. McCain was steel forged through toil and suffering while Trump's a gilded marshmallow, but those paths reached a similar point.

The two had almost nothing to do with one another, except for contempt (which is certainly not unique to McCain) but what bothers me more is this is not just a McCain thing. EVERYTHING is about Trump nowadays. Art, religion, education, celebration, mourning. It can't be healthy.
