"My father had every reason to think the world was an awful place. My father had every reason to think the world was not worth fighting for. My father had every reason to think the world was worth leaving. He did not think any of those things."

Once again, Trump manages to be the most prominent figure in attendance, even when he's not invited.
-
That's certainly a way of looking at it. (Although, I think that's inaccurate, as well.)
-
Maybe it's just spending too much time on Twitter, but I swear at least 3/4 of the comments I've seen about McCain's funeral have been either explicitly or implicitly about Trump. Am I the only one who finds this really scary? Are we going to be okay?
-
I mean, it's the funeral of a man whose life, to many people, represents the polar opposite — within the Republican Party — of Trump. And, it comes at a moment when focus on Trump's future is heightened, between SCOTUS, midterms, and Mueller. So, I'm not really surprised.
-
I also think that the aim of the focus — on who he had doing things at the funeral and what they said — was an effort, to his last real moment in the spotlight, to encourage a different path. So, he'd say, I think, that he wanted to send a message that we can be OK.
-
"A Republic, if you can keep it," and all that, but, yeah, that's how I've looked at it at least.
-
I do see this part. The broad picture of McCain as a cornerstone and Trump as a wrecking ball. That contrast rings true.

It was a very thoughtful goodbye
