I had missed the Politico reprint last night of a 1988 article.https://twitter.com/liamstack/status/1031570154700922880 …

The language was deemed insensitive. Politico was deemed obnoxious. I was deemed tired.
And not even a half-assed apology. Just a passive-voice hand-waving.
That's the kind of language I'd hear listening to Focus on the Family radio as a kid in the 80s, they need a better editor's note than that
Deemed?! Wowsa
Politico translation: Our gay readers and their friends are just so sensitive. Sheesh. [But indeed they needed to fix this. It was shockingly rude and reprobate of them to have not edited it in the pre-print draft!]
We don't even get to know who did the deeming
They could've just said, "Cohn was an asshole of galactic proportions who wound up with HIV." Does it really matter if he's gay?
Hummmm
This is a publication that offered, as its 1st headline ever, a false claim that John Edwards was suspending his campaign bc his wife Elizabeth's cancer had returned.
I want to know who wrote and approved that editor's note
They make us sound like a bunch of whiners. Yep when racists and Nazis complain how they are teared Politico would be a lot more apologetic.
This note didn’t appear for almost an hour after the change. And yet, even with the extra time it was still garbage.
Seriously, they don’t want to show they’re taking sides. Journalism’s gotta be objective.
