So, on Brett Kavanaugh, there are three paths from which we're getting documents: 1. NARA: This is the ordinary path. So far, we've just gotten Starr-related documents from NARA, which has said review will take through late October —>https://twitter.com/chrisgeidner/status/1028042091337793536 …

JUST IN: The National Archives has released 9,414 pages of Kavanaugh documents to the Senate Judiciary Committee. Both places have posted them. The NARA posting is broken down: https://www.archives.gov/research/investigations/kavanaugh … pic.twitter.com/rvi1X1mgoM

        2. GWB: This is the path Grassley has taken, which he says is a path intended to get documents more quickly, but which Dems say is a run-around that allows a GOP lawyer, Bill Burck, to decide what the committee will see. We have one set of those docs —>https://twitter.com/chrisgeidner/status/1027602082411556864 …

JUST IN: Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Grassley released "the first production" of Brett Kavanaugh's "records from his time as a lawyer in the George W. Bush White House." It's 5,735 pages. https://www.judiciary.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/08-02-18%20GWB%20Document%20Production%20-%20Pages%201%20-%205,735.pdf … / Page 1, Ken Mehlman wants his money —> pic.twitter.com/bN9LbTHPAj

        3. FOIA: This is the path @JasonLeopold (of course) took, leading to our story from last weekend about Kavanaugh's communications with OLC. https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/chrisgeidner/new-documents-from-kavanaughs-time-in-the-bush-white-house … ... It's also the path Senate Dems have taken.

We've seen a minuscule part of Kavanaugh's records thus far, yet I had this story last night out of the NARA records — https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/chrisgeidner/trumps-supreme-court-nominee-argued-a-president-likely … — and @charlie_savage and @shearm had this one out of the GWB-released docs:https://www.nytimes.com/2018/08/09/us/politics/kavanaugh-white-house-documents-bush.html …

The two biggest points of contention are over the timing and scope of the documents. On the timing, Grassley scheduled the Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing for Kavanaugh for beginning Sept. 4, long before NARA says it'll be done reviewing the documents requested.

On the scope, Grassley is not seeking documents relating to Kavanaugh's time as staff secretary (2003-06), instead just seeking those from his time in counsel's office (2001-03) and about his DC Circuit nomination. From his letter to the GWB Presidential Library:pic.twitter.com/vgfWs6Apli

Continuing this thread about Kavanaugh documents, on Sunday, Grassley released nearly 90,000 pages of documents provided to the committee from GWB's office. https://www.judiciary.senate.gov/nominations/supreme/pn2259-115 …pic.twitter.com/UqvbJGJF5a

Important context to the Sunday Kavanaugh doc release: Almost half of it (really) was copies of one email from Ginni Thomas, as one of the groups opposing Kavanaugh is noting —>https://twitter.com/cdkang76/status/1029109845537054721 …

        Chris Geidner added,

        Christopher Kang @cdkang76
No "obvious bombshells" b/c docs have been so politically pre-screened that literally 40,936 of 87,798 pages were the same 24-page email from Ginni Thomas, advertising Heritage events. Even if you love Thomas & Heritage, 17 copies––instead of 1700––is enough. #WhatAreTheyHiding https://twitter.com/chrisgeidner/status/1029105117876895745 …
