This tweet is EMBARRASSING. Sullivan is OBSESSED with presenting a bad-faith reading of Sarah's tweets as something that his very intelligent mind KNOWS is not the case.https://twitter.com/sullydish/status/1025522069201711104 …

Writing that genuinely hurts me. Andrew was a mentor of mine, someone who I looked up to in my early days—both as a gay man and as a writer. Yes, I quickly learned that he had issues, primarily when it came to race and gender, but his work and writing on gay issues was important.

He has been kind to me over the years, and I genuinely appreciate that. His inability or unwillingness to consider what he doesn't know and cannot know about the vantage-points of others' lives, though, is an astounding blind spot that, at times, greatly diminishes his work.

I mean, we can quibble over language, but, like, it can be a big blind spot, and it can be "who he is at his core." But, he also, at his core, did important things that mattered, for me and many thousands of others, at a key point in history.

I don't think it's "casual," and nowhere did I say that it was.

We can all do better, and that includes me. That's all I got, Oliver. I'm trying.

Your complicity in his behavior is very telling

The idea of not speaking out today in some way was troubling to me, for that very reason, so I did so. I'm not perfect, I know I was less perfect when I was younger, but I'm always trying.
