This tweet is EMBARRASSING. Sullivan is OBSESSED with presenting a bad-faith reading of Sarah's tweets as something that his very intelligent mind KNOWS is not the case.https://twitter.com/sullydish/status/1025522069201711104 …

I mean “he was nice to me...?” The writing and the decisions were all public? That’s part of who he is.
-
I am not sure what you're talking about at this point. I didn't say I have my views because he was nice to me, so don't act like that's what I said. What "writing" and "decisions" are you talking about?
-
I do apologize for that. Here’s what I meant about his decision and writing was all public: publishing the Bell Curve. Defending it to this day. He’s had multiple other times he’s written in a racist way about topics. People have talked about how he ran TNR and race.
-
Yes. I know, I know, I know. And I was a 17-year-old white, closeted gay kid in Youngstown, Ohio, when he published it. When I came out, he was one of the most prominent people writing about gay issues in a voice that I understood.

He and Evan Wolfson were writing and talking about marriage when others were afraid to say the word. I was in DC when DOMA was passed. Andrew's work on marriage was important.
-
Have I learned since then why his problematic positions are so troubling? Yes. But, and, maybe this is a thing about me, I hold out hope that there's room for growth for people. Maybe it's folly, but, it's part of my thing. I try to believe that whenever possible, maybe too much.

This isn’t out of character. This is “in” character. It’s been there.
