Kind of amazing that people don't recognize that spending the day attacking Paul Ryan because he posted a Father's Day tweet about how much he loves his kids says a lot more about you than it does about Ryan.

Umm that's exactly what is happening. I spent the day responding to exactly that. It's literally unhinged people freaking out as he posted a message about Father's Day because they blame him for a policy he didn't institute, opposes, and is trying to fix.

I disagree that “they blame him for” accurately states the whole of the criticism, but I think you’re incredibly generous to claim unambiguously that it’s a policy he “opposes, and is trying to fix.”

They are blaming him for it and I'm not sure how speaking out several times against it and pushing 2 bills that would change the law 2 allow families to stay together during detention could be interpreted any other way.

They are blaming him for not speaking out or pushing back against many Trump actions that they see as leading up to this, and as such, his “efforts” now are seen as insufficient — particularly given immigration advocates’ past with him regarding addressing DACA.

In summary: Their dislike of Paul Ryan and his past political actions led them to flip out over him posting a Father's Day message. Which is exactly what I said at the start of this thread.

No. The whole point here is that people are protesting something happening on a daily basis that causes serious harm to families. They will keep protesting, daily. That you seem uninterested or unwilling to engage with that BASIS for the protest is what confounds me.

I have engaged with the actual debate on immigration several times, but that debate/protest doesn't require hysteria regarding everything a political opponent says or does.

And I’m saying, that I think you — and I — come from a place that is far different from those activists who are most clearly pressing Ryan on this. Are there random assholes? Of course. But, those with the ~cause~ behind their protest have much at stake here.

I'm not dismissing their concerns as hysteria. I'm dismissing references to concentration camps, stealing children, and comparing Ryan to a Nazi as hysteria. And I'm saying not everything needs to be political. Tweeting attacks at Ryan's Father's Day post won't change policy.

Weird that you didn't include the original tweet, which specifically references attacks on his Father's Day tweet for that: https://twitter.com/AG_Conservative/status/1008192365696311297 … And also ignore the 100+ tweets I have sent in the last 2 days specifically addressing the policy concerns related to this issue.

Yes, a lot of people have real concerns about the current policy. No, that doesn't mean that people reacting to a Father's Day post from Ryan by calling him an evil Nazi are justified in doing so. I can dismiss the latter without dismissing the former.

The fact that they didn't care about this or protest this action when it occurred under Obama shows that it's a political activity not motivated by any concern for the children at the border. It should be solved, but I can't take the hype or hysteria seriously. It's scripted.
