How is it possible for Marianne Elliott not to have won that — or Joe Mantello? (Or George C. Wolfe.) Sigh.

(He just sounded weird! But, seriously, it was lovely to see four out gay actors up there to present an award.)

It’s such a simple conceit, one that could come off as trite or joke-y, but the show creates such depth and layers that it’s almost impossible not to connect to one or more of these characters.

The theater is amazing, and I am so honored by the friends I have made through my love of it. They give me an opportunity to explore and become a part of a world so different from the one in which I make my living. They inspire and entertain me constantly — and teach me often.

Congrats to all of tonight’s winners and nominees and thanks to all of the folks — from high school theater teachers to performers and crew and the creative teams behind the shows to Broadway producers — who bring theater into our lives. Thanks, A Fan.
