As always, we have no idea what decisions are coming down on any given opinion day this (or any) month, but #SCOTUS does tend to release some of the biggest cases of the term in the final two or three opinion days (generally late June).

Breaking: #SCOTUS grants DOJ's request to vacate the DC Circuit's decision in Azar v. Garza, the case involving the undocumented teen who was seeking an abortion.

SCOTUS does not address the merits of the underlying abortion case. It applies Munsingwear — a prior case — to vacate the lower court's decision. After all of that waiting, there were no dissents and it's not clear it will have much effect on the other cases at this point.

There also was no action on the allegations DOJ made against the ACLU lawyers on misconduct.

If you put the pieces of this short, 5-page decision together—underlying abortion case, simple Munsingwear vacatur, no action on alleged misconduct, no real effect on future cases—the time this took (to get no dissents) makes a little more sense (but still not a ton of sense).

tl:dr: This doesn't mean much. The main reason we were paying attention was because, given how long they had it, we presumed a justice must have been writing a fiery dissent. No one did, though, and there were no sanctions, either, so this sort of goes into the ether.

On page 3 of Alito's decision, it cites to the Hughes decision, which explains why the Hughes decision had to come first.

BREAKING: #SCOTUS rules in Masterpiece Cakeshop that the Colorado Civil Rights Commission's actions violated the Free Exercise Clause. Justice Kennedy writes the opinion of the court. Only Ginsburg and Sotomayor dissent.

AT THE END OF THE DAY: In the two big #SCOTUS moves today, the court took no position on abortion rights or application of civil rights laws to same-sex couples' marriages. In doing so, the Chief Justice was able to minimize dissent and avoid controversial rulings.

Nonetheless, the issues remain — as the class-action case involving whether undocumented teens can seek abortions while in federal custody still exists and a different cert petition raising the same question as in Masterpiece (Arlene's Flowers) is pending before #SCOTUS now.
