Honestly, this could be the most threatening thing to happen to Jeff Sessions’ criminal justice aims since Trump was threatening to fire him every day.https://twitter.com/realdonaldtrump/status/1001961235838103552 …

For example, the mention of sentencing in Trump’s tweet — reform of which is a non-starter with Sessions — is notable to me. Sessions is the anti-sentencing reform guy. Last year, when he did this — https://twitter.com/chrisgeidner/status/863018235788234753?s=21 … ...
... it was one of the few times the Kochs came out with a statement opposing his move:https://twitter.com/tparti/status/863055890244653058?s=21 …
Sessions’ views, tho, nonetheless turned “sentencing reform” into “prison reform,” a winnowing down of what the criminal justice project included, even as a possibility within the administration. And yet, now, Trump’s tweeting about sentencing — not changes, of course, but talks.
And, yes, I know how little words mean from Trump, & I know how often he changes positions, & I know who runs the Congress. My point is not that this is advocates’ solution or “the fix” or anything, but just that this was probably one of the smartest ways to get his attention.
For advocates, getting Trump’s attention is half (or more) of the battle. And, for people whose aims aren’t necessarily going to get them tons of air time on Fox News, this was probably one of the smartest ways to get the conversation to him. </rant>
It also could be... STUPID.
It’s really disappointing that we’re talking about Kim Kardashian with the same bated breath that we talked about Colin Powell in the run-up to the Iraq war.
I think you are exactly right and that, ridiculous though it may appear to others, Trump would consider doing something on criminal justice reform in response to Kardashian-West approval/attention. It's stupid on his part but it's no joke.
