He says he will re-file if needed at a later point, but this definitely suggests a backing down, for now, on this issue. (Although it's not quite clear to me what that really was beyond what he's already gotten out of it.)

(Yes, I would agree, at least in part, with those saying that he likely decided to withdraw his motion after Judge Wood made it clear that part of his being admitted would mean that she'd expect him to stop trying the matter in the media.)

I think he made the right move to withdraw. If he was allowed, the judge made it clear that he would not be able to stay in the public light. If he withdrew, he can continue to keep his case in the spotlight and not forgotten. Did I get that right?
