The updated its mortality projection for Utah this morning — and it’s probably what you expected and feared. It predicts Covid deaths in the state will continue to climb — 330 between now and Christmas, on a path to 450 or more by the end of the year.

The Trump Administration was a front for anti-government criminals who wanted to dismantle government as a public good while making as much profit as possible. They’re not to just leave without causing more destruction and hindering any future progress.

NEW: Mnuchin will place the $455b in unspent Cares Act money he is taking back from the Fed into Treasury's General Fund, where his successor (Yellen) essentially cannot reach it w/o Congressional approval

Lots of good quotes here, but this one is hitting hard: "Household gatherings would be much safer if officials put stricter limits on commercial and nonresidential activities. They are choosing not to, and then saying the fault lies with individuals."

According to the NYT, Facebook knows perfectly well how to slow the spread of misinformation on its platform. It has mostly chosen not to do so because the company is run by a sociopath.

Bruce Boynton died today. A lot of people don't know his name but he is evidence of how recent slavery was. It's SUCH a crazy, mindblowing story that's centered on a Black woman who I've argued might be the MOST important person in Civil Rights history A thread.

I see the “our guardrails were effective” & “the system worked” takes are out. If I’m driving & by the time I get to my destination, my car lost two wheels, the engine’s smoking & every emergency light is on, I don’t think “wow the car worked!” I think “I gotta fix this asap.”

Doctors are already rationing care in Utah. Every day I'm grateful my sister had her stroke before the pandemic, and I deeply fear for if she has another during it.

Just coming back to this … The 2,244 cases is three below our Monday record that was two weeks ago. This is the lowest number of tests reported since Nov. 3. Our 7-day average just keeps climbing. And 30% positive is … oof. It’s the second-highest next to that Nov. 3.

My dark horse theory for why we cannot get our act together on Covid is that diet culture has broken our brains to think we should have cheat days.
