[1 of 2] No, you are not the only one who feels that way, others have said the same, but I say to you what I have said to them. YOU. BELONG. HERE. Now and for as long as you feel like being around, you contribute a great energy, kindness, range of knowledge, wisdom, and insight.

[2 of 2] I selfishly ask, please never leave, does not matter if another 20 or 30 years go by, if the desire is in your heart to be in InfoSec, then you belong in InfoSec.

I know more people who feel like they don't belong in infosec than who feel like they do, and since it's that universal of an experience, I'm going to say that it's all bullshit and we all belong. Keep your head up.

Couldn't have said it better. Just like so many things in technology, impostor syndrome is not only rampant in infosec, it's magnified. Everyone feels like they're not talking enough, not pushing enough CVEs, not doing enough research, etc. This is a nearly-universal experience.

Brother, you are exactly where you are supposed to be, and I know exactly how you feel. We're in a field surrounded by some absolutely brilliant people, and it's easy to feel like an impostor. 1/n

I have my GCIH, GPEN, and GWAPT, and I've been in tech for 15 years now, and I didn't make it past a first round phone interview this week. Talk about feeling like you don't belong!! Take some time and meditate, quiet your mind. You got this! 2/2

You belong. Everyone brings a unique perspective to the industry and that can only be accomplished by continuing to add new people. If you are passionate about security you definitely belong and I hope you stay.

You’re definitely not the only one. I have pretty complicated feelings about this industry, and “community,” and I’m sorry you’re feeling burnt out and isolated, especially in a time of grief.

Nah. I feel like I don't belong more often than not because I tend to not speak, look or act in similar fashion to those around me. As a 26 year old who's been gainfully employed in this industry since 16, I still have to push and prove myself everyday. It's exhausting...

Same here. Been in the industry since I was 16, so 29 years... Do the math
