    People have to stop peddling the idea wind is unpopular. It's not. All those millions of people who say "I quite like wind, me" - you're not a special snowflake. You're normal. Boringly so.

    More bad news for Uber. Prof Shashua from Intel/Mobileye says their basic software suite would have avoided the crash with just the shitty dashcam video to go on. Let alone using a good camera + lidar + radar. Asks for guidelines and transparency.

    Two things that can both be true: 1. The world is getting better, by most metrics of human well-being 2. The risk of a major catastrophe is going up over time Yet I often see ppl try to dismiss 2 by saying "The doomsayers are wrong, things are getting better, [argument for 1]"

    Well, to be fair, she's not saying which constituency they're controversial with. If you assume it's Daily Mail editors and conservative party members she's probably quite right...

    "We haven't got a ban. Conservatives have a manifesto commitment to not do large onshore wind in England because they were so controversial" - except the government's own data shows onshore wind is consistently popular (unlike fracking, which is much more clearly controversial)

    Yes, yes, a thousand times yes.

    It's extremely important to understand that we're entering the fossil fuel endgame, and the biggest political risk for climate advocates is that we accept too little, too late as a reasonable effort at compromise. Here is one place where outdated thinking is truly dangerous.
