I got a Tesla so autopilot would save me from rear-ending anyone when I'm distracted Instead, it has almost guaranteed that I'm going to be rear-ended myself because it's constantly slamming on the brakes for no good reason Today in rain it almost caused an accident behind me😬

Another thing that I really hate about Autopilot is that it has no idea what to do when lanes split How about just staying in the left hand lane where I already am? This is today on 880, five miles from the main Tesla factory in Freemont. Leaves lane🙄

It also gets confused by trucks in the next lane and thinks they're encroaching in my lane. Here it is doing that this morning. The car slows down when it sees the truck (or its shadow?) and I have to take over. Infuriating

The AI needs a reboot. It needs to observe all the traffic inputs like a flock of birds. If the birds are all flocking in formation to the left, the lanes are bending to the left. Maximum safety is when the flock flocks in unison.

At this point, a REALLY good level 2 system is the best option (ala Comma.ai) where the car handles most of lane and car distance keeping, but all the high level decision-making is still up to you (and steering override doesnt disengage the AP). Best of both worlds

Toyota’s assisted driving system has the same damn problem. It’s so annoying. I’ve given up on it.
