New, private iOS 6 feature Apple is using: remote view controllers. For example: the Mail compose view is now run in a separate process.

@chpwn :) I was wondering how long it would take people to notice.

@andy_matuschak I was keeping that tweet for iOS 6 official release but @chpwn has a few more followers than me, so it’s good he did it. 😃

@0xced @andy_matuschak Sorry. :p I hadn’t seen it in beta 1, so was intrigued when I checked again and there was a new setup.

@chpwn @0xced @andy_matuschak does that mean you could hack together a custom 'share plugin' and save having to switch apps? :-)

@stroughtonsmith @0xced @andy_matuschak Yes; that’s how Apple does it right now for their built-in sharing items. Just need an open API.

@chpwn wouldn't that affect performance? or do they remove the unnecessary (if any) processes in the background? :/ Is this good or bad?

@hyperprosexic It will likely improve performance.

@chpwn that’d explain all the xpc stuff I have been coming across. Didn’t dig too deep, but sounds fun.

@chpwn Interesting. And that’s how we’re going to get UIActivities to become more like Metro’s Contracts in the future, presumably.

@chpwn I wrote a blog post about remote view controllers: http://oleb.net/blog/2012/10/remote-view-controllers-in-ios-6/ …. Thanks for mentioning their existence a while ago.

@javieralog interesting. The best solution is probably for you to configure your app to allow mixed localization.

@tshortli @javieralog i.e. CFBundleAllowMixedLocalizations. Without that, the framework cannot used localized strings in your process.
