    The elimination of privacy is the elimination of personal communication and even inner thought. Privacy preserves individuality. If all value transfers are public & recorded, privacy is eroded. The erosion of privacy is the deterioration of the self. preserves the self.

    Interesting baseline. And privacy is just one feature. People that appreciate or need Monero for privacy buy it. But also people who don’t even care about privacy will want Monero because it’s better at being fungible censorship resistant unconfiscatable secure digital gold.

    The ratio of Protonmail users to Gmail users should be similar to the ratio of monero users to bitcoin users. There are approximately 20 million protonmail users to Gmail's 1.5 billion. 1.3% is the ratio of society that cares about privacy.

    Reminder that it's almost impossible to use Bitcoin in a privacy-preserving manner. We've been making small improvements, and continuing this work is important. But for serious privacy we'll need more fundamental changes.

    The next great Bitcoin battle will be over privacy; the cracks are already starting to show as more companies are closing accounts of people who use privacy preserving services. These companies shall find themselves on the wrong side of history.

    I was once a pure Bitcoin passionate, and a "maximalist" - before the term was coined. As long as only the first useless copy/paste altcoins and/or premined scams were around it made sense to be so. I was preaching it and educating people as much as I could.

    Here's another reminder that Confidential Transactions (CT), which only hides transaction amounts, does exactly nothing for fungibility.

    Fungibility is the only property of sound money that is missing from Bitcoin & Litecoin. Now that the scaling debate is behind us, the next battleground will be on fungibility and privacy. I am now focused on making Litecoin more fungible by adding Confidential Transactions. 🚀
