wow...this. It was really frustrating watching native speakers keep on asking for clarification when it's v/ obvious what the other person was *trying* to say despite an accent. Probably not intentional but felt pretentious lol

people don’t condescend in the same way when they mishear e.g. thick french or british accents i saw my parents get infantilized like this all the time growing up—hadn’t thought about it in a while but i definitely was embarrassed by it and tried to distance myself at the time
