i wonder if coronavirus and the possibility of future viruses will significantly warp the perceived incentive structure for becoming a doctor

most white collar employees have the privilege of staying home in a pandemic situation, but medical professionals have to spend even more time at work (directly exposed to the worst cases) as the crisis deepens

we don’t usually think of medicine as a profession with acute risks of mortality but it seems plausible, eventually, to compare the occupational hazards of hospitals to e.g. firefighting, or work with heavy machinery
