Attention twitter. @AmericanAir and I are spending quite a bit of our day together. This is an announcement of my request for an upgrade on my return leg from DEN to PHL on Friday, cause I’m worth it, ya feel?

Step1: arrive at airport, 330am. “It’s 5 lbs over, that’ll be $100 or repack it.” Step2: check bag Step3: arrive at gate, board on time Step4: everyone around me gets notifications about changing their flights. I’m sweatin’ Step5: “attention passengers, no captain, deplane now”

Step6: rebook. Only avail trip to DEN is via CLT&O’Hare. Arrive DEN 5pm, 6.5hrs later than ticketed. Step7: “oof really that’s my only option?” “Yep.” Step8: caffeine and bagel Step9: reboard Step10: attendants announce that pilot has just landed, and should be onboard ~soon~

Step11: Captain onboard. Golf claps. I’ve now been at the airport for nearly 4 hrs. I typically get here 15 minutes before my flight boards when I’m not checking a bag, bc I love to live on the edge. Today I was diligent. It’s not paying off.

Step12: pilot comes over intercom. “We’re getting ready to rock and roll up here”. Is he slightly less fatigued than me? Attendants begin security presentation. Step13: pushback. It’s 7:29. I’m ready for the real fun — prep for 2 connections. 14: lights off. Eyes closed.

15:”flight attendants, prepare for landing”. Arrive CLT 9:01am, 2:13 behind schedule 16: deplane, and immediately head to CS desk. Spoke with agent Melanda Bradley, who charismatically rebooked me in the last available seat on a flight direct to DEN. Huge win here, team!pic.twitter.com/rUH7Hy97NJ

It makes to break here and share a word of advice. When a major airline w/ hundreds of domestic flights like
@AmericanAir reroutes you after a delay early itinerary, ADVOCATE FOR YOURSELF. If I hadn’t stopped by CS, I would’ve been stuck with an awful extra leg to Chicago.1 reply 0 retweets 3 likesShow this thread -
If this happens to you, go to the CS desk every 15 min. and asked to be rebooked on a direct flight to your destination. Your best bet to win at this at Hub airports. For AA, that’s DTW, LAX, CLT, and PHL. I got lucky, there was just one seat left and it could’ve been gone...
