For a really long time I thought inner work, occult, and generally ‘unscientific’ truth-seeking practices were total BS (and probably also predatory marketing)

I’ve become much more amenable to the idea that there are some personally idiosyncratic truths that are impenetrable to ‘science’, especially wrt things like consciousness, spirituality, the body, etc.

For the first time I’ve started to encounter really smart people who take these practices seriously—I’m pretty sure this is what convinced me to challenge my priors here I suppose they could be wrong, but for now I think it’s unexplored territory that’s worth visiting

They're not even impenetrable to science! They're being studied and stuff is being figured out, the theory is there, some measurements are there, it's just that pop science won't budge from reductionist materialism! That's the most maddening part

I was actually thinking about adding an “impenetrable... for now” qualifier! Totally agree—reductionist materialism is exactly what I think I’m starting to unravel in my own models of how this stuff works Getting the institution to budge on this, on the other hand...

For example the Russians have decades of research into torsion energy (also called zero-point energy, which we absolutely know exists!) which the West didn't follow up on because it's tied in all sorts of spooky shit like consciousness and so-called supernatural phenomena

Reminds me of the decades of psychedelic research that Nixon and the DEA buried in the 70s

We've undone almost a century of real progress into psychology and mental health and god knows what else by burying psychedelic research and pretending nothing at all happened. They were getting incredible results even back then
