I’ve been pretty lucky in cultivating a Twitter community that is overwhelmingly positive & respectful, but a few of my female friends have run into men shaming them for posting tame selfies/accusing them of being “thots” (& worse) and it’s pretty frustrating to witness

Idk how to pragmatically address it, & to some degree I think it’ll always be the case so long as Twitter has the freedom that in many ways makes it great & my friends are tough, but it’s really gross & unnecessary.

I don’t want to come off as an uptight school marm but guys, if you see your friends saying this stuff, could you maybe consider gently saying something to them? Feel free to reply with other suggestions as well.

female chastity/purity & slut shaming is baked really deeply into male socialization I’m lucky to have female friends to call me out when it subtly reaches the surface in our conversations but unfortunately men mostly listen to other men, so it’s on men to socialize each other

Yeah, aside from the individual psychological reasons behind it I think it's, unfortunately, a performative act rewarded by certain parts of Twitter. But there are also a lot of really good men on here that I think do a great job of modeling good/respectful behavior.

I was talking w my sister about this today—many men have a hard time relating with women as full human beings somehow I think we are instructed create a higher threshold for women to enter our Dunbar circle ime this is especially true of men without close female family members

That's a helpful insight. Something I've noticed about the men who have alarmed me most in my life is that they seemed to be unable to see women as individuals, instead assigning the qualities of all women they dislike or felt unfairly treated by to the woman at hand.

this inexperience with women (not romantically, but platonically) is the core of the incel mindset, and it’s why I think it needs to be *treated* rather than vilified this article was making the rounds a few months ago; def a disturbing readhttps://nplusonemag.com/issue-35/fiction-drama/the-feminist/ …
