In my experience, it seems like the pressures/incentives to study biology, chemistry, engineering, etc. haven't subsided Instead it's just become rapidly more compelling to study CS, and the academic hiring market failed to anticipate the explosion + is now playing catch-up
The optimist in me hopes that the distribution of STEM talent isn't zero-sum (i.e. more CS students ≠ fewer students in other fields) I'd be curious to see what these graphs look for non-STEM departments
