I want my 15-month-old son Eli to live in a world where women aren’t harassed for doing something as simple as getting the healthcare they need. Reproductive healthcare is healthcare. Women’s healthcare is healthcare. And healthcare is a basic human right.

Bias against minority physicians harms everyone: physicians, their patients, and medical training. I wrote about it in

For women of color, it’s beyond walking a tightrope. It’s “hey, walk across this bed of coals while we criticize”https://twitter.com/JWill_PediACCM/status/1081032160956555269 …

I don’t have the answers. We certainly need to resist the urge to place women leaders in these narrow categories. And getting more women into leadership roles will make it harder to do so.

All I could think of when I read that was how we need to free women to just do their f***ing jobs instead of having to walk these tightropes to get ahead.

One of the best descriptions of this is in this study https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4146658/ … in which a female resident describes being free to be assertive during a code only because she would make up for it by being “super apologetic afterward”

Often women deal with this by scrambling back and forth between assertiveness and typical “feminine” communal behaviors.

I think about this impossible tightrope often. Women leaders basically have one of two choices: “weak” or a “bitch.”https://twitter.com/andizeisler/status/1080923071513427969 …

I made up some Dr. Glaucomflecken merchandise, which is a crazy thing I never thought I'd say. We'll see how this goes. I'll add more items down the road if people are interested. Of course, all proceeds will be donated to First Descents. Thanks!https://teespring.com/new-dr-glaucomflecken#pid=663&cid=102920&sid=front …
