also: if you DO plan on asking for a raise. be prepared to PROVE your value. charts and lists and figures help. know what your job is and how it fits into the institution. mentioning your fixed costs/month do not help. comparative salaries as evidence of your value does not help.

fair. but also this still needs to happen a billion times in every industry. because the sum of this effect will move a needle that is so far in the red on one side the machine is broken. many not great feelings in the mix here.

I recently had a conversation with coworkers about wage transparency and I did just this. It’s so wiiiiild that we are hush hush about personal salary and wage gap. It makes zero sense!

Except that at most companies it’s against policy to discuss wages. It’s built into the system.

this changed my actual life (income) when my two closest male colleagues told me

A male colleague got a raise from 100 pounds a day to 200 when he became lead data analyst with a team of beneath him. When I took over his role, I got no raise at all. I asked my boss about it, and he said he would ask accounting about it. They eventually offered 13%.
