If you've ever used Google Maps on a crappy connection, you know the pain of zooming in & out. With vectors, there's less data to transfer.

@chockenberry Even better: on a crappy connection, Android supports cached Google Maps. iOS doesn’t. Not sure whose fault, but it sucks.

@chockenberry Hasn’t Google Maps used vectors on Android for years now?

@chockenberry All those city slickers are spoiled by their fancy LTE and shiny public infrastructure!

@chockenberry But at least, Google Maps work. Vector or not… :(

@ebf @chockenberry I wonder since TomTom is providing data for Maps they have better accuracy here in A’dam :)

@isutton @chockenberry Tomtom data is being used on the US only, AFAIK.

@chockenberry ... with vectors, as you drive out of cell range, you can still make that turn or zoom in on detail and not fat pixels.

@chockenberry but sadly the street, building, railway station you’re looking for might not be shown :(

@chockenberry Not really an improvement when the map data is as low quality (in some areas) as Apple’s.

@chockenberry True…but does Maps actually *draw* vectors, or are the tiles just vector-made? Still looks like tiles loading, same as Google.
