a magnitude of 1.67 (84% chance), but I'm starting to think (and hope?) that its magnitude is going to get truly exceptional quite soon. Please please go BOOM

Interesting, I thought it had started brightening a bit again?
-
It's hard to find reliable data. Some people look at visual magnitude reports, which they average. But these observations are done only with their eyes, and that's are very unreliable instrument! I prefer looking at the V-band magnitude, measured with instruments, and I usually

I wonder if that the burst that Liago detected the other day is related... Lets hope
-
Probably not, Betelgeuse kept the same behavior before and after the burst.https://twitter.com/chmn_victor/status/1217436544061124608?s=19 …

Thanks for keeping us up to date,
@IsBetelgeuseOK doesn't seem like a reliable source, but what else can you expect when you are about to blow up. -
Astronomically unreliable.

I was wondering would scientific instruments pick up the explosion before it’s visible to the naked eye? Even if we were able to get a tiny amount of warning. Being able to see it happen would just be incredible.
-
Neutrino detectors pick up the neutrinos first because the photons have to fight their way out of the core.

I was shocked at how dim it has gotten! I'm hoping for a nice show soon (you know, in the next week to 100 years), and the formation of the Orion's Bursitis Nebula.
-
Is the speed at which it's dimming in recent times increasing compared to previously measured rates of change of brightness? If speed of dimming is unusual on top of unusual low brightness leve itself would that give some hint as to what to expect and when?

That's 35% of its usual brightness, and 55% of its lowest brightness for the last 50 years.
Earlier this month, I explained that this minimum could be expected, and I also said that it shouldn't get fainter than
