An amazing graph about the luminosity of a 's supernova 😍

I don’t think anymore that this project would need to break the laws of physics to work, and I’m happy not to break the laws of physics 😊 10/10

I feel more optimistic now that I ended my research on the project than before. If SpinLaunch works, it will be revolutionary. However, I still believe it won’t work for the numerous problems I pointed out, but 9/10

The payload will have to resist EXTREMELY strong accelerations (10000 G of centrifugal force). The sonic boom will be EX… (ok I stop) extremely strong. Etc… So, it may be “orbitally” feasible, but on the ground, there still are some huge problems to solve. But in the end, 8/10

When the rocket will leave the arm, the arm will be extremely unbalanced, and it is never good when it rotates at 450RPM. When the empty room will be opened, the difference of pressure will cause some damage. The rocket will have to resist EXTREMELY high temperatures. 7/10

need a fuel mass of 17,800 kg. That’s 2200 kg left for the payload (of 100 kg), the engine (not less than 500 kg) and everything else (1600 kg left…). This is NOT unrealistic. However, there are some other issues: 6/10

But reaching 68km isn’t enough to orbit the Earth. SpinLaunch says it will turn the engines on at an altitude of 66km (which they can reach!). By using the Tsiolkovsky rocket equation (exhaust speed = 2900 m/s), we find the circularise its orbit at this altitude, it will 5/10

The 424 kN of drag at launch weren’t enough to stop the rocket. Of course, this is a basic simulator, it doesn’t take in account the fact that the drag coefficient isn’t constant whatever the speed. But it remains quite accurate. 4/10

Let’s consider that the rocket will have a mass of 20,000 kg (16 m long, 2 m large, 1.2 kg/L) and a constant drag coefficient of 0.05. We have the following trajectory curve… OMG I thought the air drag would have stopped it instantly, but it reaches an altitude of 68,300 m. 3/10

Here are some drawings from Spinlaunch. We can guess two things: the initial speed will be of ~2100 m/s (45m long arm at 450 RPM), the diameter of the rocket is ~2 m and the launch angle is 35°. With this, I launched a simulation on my self-programmed simulator. 2/10

I just discovered … It’s a company which is developing a “kinetic energy space launch”: they make the rocket rotate really fast and then release it. I was REALLY doubtful, thinking “they would have to break the laws of physics to make it work”. So I digged a bit. 1/10

You did it, 1k! 😱 1 month ½ ago, I had 3 followers 😂 Thanks a lot for following me! I'm just an amateur, a physics student, a simple undergraduate, but I try to do my best to transmit accurate science. Thanks for trusting me, but don't trust me too much, I'm just an amateur ;)

So you're all telling me that I've been using the wrong word ("fainting") for weeks, when I should have used "dimming" or "fading"? 🤦🏻‍♂️ I feel quite stupid, it's not easy not being a native English speaker ^^

These two data points (in the J and H band) are made by the same observer... who didn't make the other observations. And you see these points on the 18th, which were lower than the others? It's him. So is there really a drop or is this observer used to underestimating the
