I know it’s been over 16 hours but that vote to cut off witnesses was just unconscionable. The vote to acquit or convict & remove involves a different set of considerations. But a vote to look away from the facts and the truth is indefensible.

As more damaging facts come out, senators who vote against calling witnesses will have to explain why they refused to consider all available evidence when the case was before them.

Abuse of power is impeachable. Impeachment trials have witnesses. By rejecting these principles, the Senate does lasting harm to our constitutional republic.

If GOP Senators accept the substantive arguments of Trump's defense team, they should not fear testimony by those with firsthand knowledge of relevant events. They could hear testimony and still vote to acquit.

Concluding an impeachment trial without hearing from witnesses is without precedent. It's common for Senate to hear witnesses the House did not.
