I've had the opposite problem except in my current position...In almost every case my abilities have been "underestimated" upon hiring and within a year or so I'm promoted to make up.

While I appreciate that people eventually recognize me... The fact that I have to constantly wait for the lead guy to screw up or covertly do more work and then "surprise" people with my talents has really worn thin.
