Maybe late, but I can add some color to that quote about 15+ years. This is period where people start to "max out". Around the "staff engineer" level. A few things happen at this point. - Very little space above you - Those jobs may not mesh with your skills ...

It's not just "manager track". Principal Engineer+ isn't typically a full-time coding job. I do docs and talks and code reviews and architecture and planning and mentoring... It's really technical, but it's still a leadership role and not everyone wants this...

This is great! Do you know what is the copyright license for the dataset? Am interested in sharing it somewhere else.

It might be interesting to compare some data with veterinary doctors. It's an equally (possibly more) intellectual job, but the % of women has risen rapidly since the 70s and is now well over half, with new graduates being ~80% women.

Thanks for a great analysis! It would also be interesting to see the numbers for the 20% non-US tech workers.

There have been many analyses of this important topic. Thanks for yours. There are a couple of issues. 1/n

Available data often does not include level of education, skewing the numbers. New grads with an MS typically start at a higher level than with a BS. Though a job applicant's education plays a lesser role later on, the effect of that "head start" in $ does persist. 2/n

I would love to see some more granular data on Machine Learning Engineers. I am assuming they fall under Software Engineer category here.
