Rosenbaum's motivation/reasonableness will be irrelevant to determining Rittenhouse's reasonableness. Rittenhouse a) was acting lawfully, b) was chased by a threatening mob, c) heard gunshot, d) was cornered, e) had someone reach for his rifle. Reasonable fear. Self-defense.

He wasn't acting lawfully though. He is being charged with unlawful possession of a dangerous firearm under 18 and he (all of them) were breaking curfew.

That unlawful possession charge doesn't preclude his self-defense claim. To be relevant, the alleged unlawful act has to be relevant to his actions. (E.g. you can't claim self-defense while committing armed robbery.)
