I wish Google Maps had a "I'm walking home by myself at night" mode that would show you a way with well lit paths and open spaces. It always seems to take you on narrow, dark pathways in cities

Same for accessible routes. It doesn’t mention if a route involves e.g. a footbridge over a railway line. You only find out when you’re pushing a buggy that you have to completely retrace your steps and find an alternate route.

I suggested this as part of a usability study for the now-defunct Google Trips app: those with different needs should still be able to sightsee safely and easily. I hadn't even considered the potential of being vulnerable at night.
