For the record NO drug addict is seeking services and sadly, many of our Tenderloin drug addicts will die from overdose before they get any effective help or treatment. Why don’t you start prosecuting drug dealers - that’s your job! #sf4emma

SF has lots of treatment programs but why use then when you allow them to steal and rob people so they can buy more drugs

Given the HUGE amount SF is doing for homelessness and drug addiction, more than almost any US city..what exactly are you suggesting in addition to existing programs?? The experiments we are already running in SF aren’t working.

How much harder is it for addicts to get clean if drug dealers are right there to supply, and that temptation is so readily available? Shouldn't that be obvious, if the goal isn't to protect drug trafficking?

That’s a perfect argument for decriminalization. Let’s get it off of the streets and into stores and bars, and provide safe injection sites. Problem solved. Just like alcohol.

Well, Lindsay Lasalle is wrong. Without criminalizing drug use we don’t have a lever to force homeless addicts into treatment and clean up the horrible mess that you,
@chesaboudin, have created with your “restorative justice” program.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

People didn’t get incarcerated for treatment. They get incarcerated for committing a crime. As a DA if you don’t understand that….why are u running for DA? U we’re doing fine as a Public Defender….why swtich? If u swore an oath….don’t uphold it. You should be incarcerated

This post seems incredibly out of touch with the problems. I don’t see anyone posting about threatening drug users with jail time. I see people posting that they want to feel safe walking down their streets, and there are unstable addicts everywhere.

So no arrests for DUIs? Addicts and alcoholics should be held responsible for crime whether it's undertaken to feed a habit or while high. The threat of incarceration has led many people to a point of admission and acceptance.

“As long as we have people who are addicted to drugs, who are willing to destroy their own bodies and their own lives, no amount of investment on the law enforcement is going to solve this problem.” — San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin in The Wall Street Journal 4/21
