Today, Troy McAlister was arraigned on numerous felony charges, including vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated charges for the deaths of Hanako Abe and Elizabeth Platt. My office and I are distraught over this horrific tragedy.

I have to start with what we could have done differently in house. We are carefully reviewing what happened and how the District Attorney’s Office can work to prevent tragedies like this from occurring in the future.

We are focused on three things as we move forward: holding Mr. McAlister accountable for the harm he caused; supporting the victims’ families; and working internally in our own office and along with our justice partners to make changes to prevent this kind of tragedy.

Respectfully, if news reports are accurate the accused had a strong pattern of thefts and burglaries including car jacking. This wasn’t a one off or unpredictable occurrence. Every theft or burglary can go wrong and puts innocent people at risk.

Why is he claiming this as unpredictable then?

“No one predicted this tragedy “??? People have been warning you for a year that something like this was going to happen, because of your soft approach on serious crime.

I know who could have predicted it, me! When you end law and order. You get crime and lawlessness.
